SAN FRANCISCO - There will be an overnight closure of the last northbound exit just before the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza on Tuesday, December 6 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning. The ramp closure is part of a roadway project to improve the northbound off-ramp and the intersection at the Southeast Visitor Plaza area.Drivers should use local roads to access Lincoln Boulevard.There will be an additional ramp closure at the conclusion of the project. The date for this closure will be announced when it is confirmed.The closure was scheduled for a time when traffic volumes are lowest.See the advisory for maps and detour routes.Southeast Visitor Plaza ImprovementsThis ramp closure is part of a project to improve traffic conditions around the Southeast Visitor Plaza/Lincoln Boulevard/Merchant Road intersection and help alleviate congestion during construction.Work will include:• Implementing an all-way stop at the Merchant Rd./Lincoln Blvd. intersection to improve theoperation of the intersection.• Removing and reconstructing the center median island on Merchant Rd., widening the roadway andrestriping to create two lanes in each direction, increasing storage and intersection capacity.• Widening the northbound Highway 101 off ramp in order to create separate left and right turn lanes.This project is being conducted in cooperation with the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, National Park Service, and Presidio Trust.
